Abuba brought little Ellen over yesterday, saying she was hot and shaking. I took her temp and it was ridiculously high—nearly 105. I stripped her and put her in a basin with water, the poor thing. Then let her sit with Abuba with wet towels on her forehead and chest.
Her little eyes were rolling back in her head and she was shaking.
Kim and Pattie came home in the meanwhile and we took turns fanning her. We must’ve fought that fever for two hours before we finally got it to stay down.
We’re not doctors. We don’t have children’s Tylenol. We don’t have children’s malaria medicine, if that’s even what it is it. Seeing our little gem like that was heart-wrenching.
We also found out yesterday there’s something like chicken pox running through the village. Baby Pattie is covered in spots and quite miserable, as are a growing number of children. I’m not sure if chicken pox runs through here often or if we should be worried about the adults catching cases. Then there are all the elderly and pregnant women.
Anyway, I have only a minute, but I wanted to ask for some prayer for health in our villages. This chicken pox thing is on top of all the malaria that’s normally around. Thanks for your prayers!

We just wanted to tell you that we have been praying for you and are encouraged by your faithfulness and perseverance amongst many trials over the past 15 months. We will pray for the health of the village as you requested. We read you blog occasionally to see how things are with you. We apologize for not being more in contact with you. We received your letter recently and thank you for the personal touch. It was great to hear from you. Please continue to send us your prayer requests. We can burden with you by praying for the needs of the village and the spiritual struggle that exists in the Sudan. We pray every night together as a family and devote at least one night a week to pray for missionaries we know. The kids are doing fine. Sam and Angie are in school and Bella is staying home with Sandra. We are studying an exciting book in bible study by Lee Strobel (a former journalist from the Chicago Tribune) who came to Christ while researching the person of Jesus Christ. In fact, the first several chapters deal with suffering and how God uses it to bring us near to him and to perfect us. Some news you may not know are the Illini are 4-1, the Bears lost to the Lions today even with a quarterback switch, and the Cubs won their division.
